care home daffodils wilting beside mum’s bed

 

 

spring at last the hearse arrives

 

 

within the old sailor’s laugh a gull’s shriek

 

 

a column of gnats the river grows colder

 

 

pounding dough over and over the girl with all the bruises

 


Bio:

John McManus is a widely published haiku poet from Carlisle, Cumbria, England. He’s received two Touchstone Awards from the Haiku Foundation, and is the author of two haiku collections Inside His Time Machine (Iron Press 2016) and after night rain (Bones, 2019)
